International Day against Homophobia
Campaigns and Initiatives take place on May 17th every year in many different countries to combat prejudice against LGBT people. Homophobia and transphobia is still a sad fact around the globe, in 86 countries homosexuality is illegal, while in 7 of those countries LGBT individuals are murdered simply for their sexuality or gender identity.
In Ireland, LGBT people are not recognized with equal rights as citizens and homophobia and transphobia occur. For LGBTQ youth around the country, homophobia can be experienced, particularly within schools in the form of homophobic bullying.
We will be making posters and IDAHO recognition displays to leave around the City during the day. A small ceremony with speeches and a balloon release for all LGBT people and friends or family of LGBT people will take place at 5pm in Eyre Square.
ALL LGBT YOUTH, LGBT ADULTS AND FRIENDS AND FAMILY OF LGBT ARE INVITED TO JOIN US
